If you look for stories about how divorced parents can work as a team to raise the children, you’ll find many of them. There isn’t much doubt that the children can thrive when there’s effective co-parenting in place. But, some people don’t realize that there are situations that simply don’t lend themselves to that possibility.
Seal, the famed singer, has four children with his ex, supermodel Heidi Klum. He recently noted that while they share the children, they’ve been unsuccessful in working together on matters related to their kids. The couple finalized their divorce in 2014, and Klum has since married again.

Most recently, Klum wanted to bring the children with her to Germany to film a show. The oldest of the children noted that they wanted to go with their mother, but Seal protested. Ultimately, Klum was able to take them, but Seal received additional visitation rights both before and after the trip.
The issues between Klum and Seal might seem extreme, but it highlights how difficult co-parenting is sometimes. Anyone who has children together must work toward a compromise so their kids can get what they need.
Anyone who’s going through a divorce that involves children should be sure they get the terms of the parenting plan set as quickly as possible. This will govern how you and your co-parent will raise your kids and handle other aspects of your life, such as a parenting schedule. Learning your options and making sure you consider the kids’ best interests are imperative. Your attorney can help you to ensure that you have things in order as you move toward the finalization of the divorce and custody agreement.
